Case Study: Gallivan Community Center Addresses Mental Health in Mattapan (MA)

Gallivan Community Center (Boston Centers for Youth & Families) knew they wanted to engage with their community, but they had not yet identified a specific challenge or issue area. A few weeks prior to December's Brainstorming Summit, SparkShare staff visited them and facilitated a working session to help them identify the issues most important to them and their peers. Through brainstorming challenges and prioritizing where they could have the most impact, the team landed on mental health as their top priority – specifically, reducing stigma and increasing access to and awareness of mental health resources. With a clear focus coming into SparkShare’s December ‘23 Brainstorming Summit, they were able to move their work forward, developing a plan to get mental health resources out to their community using social media and website to serve as a central hub for these resources. With support from SparkShare, they have identified their target audience, established a goal for their project, and feasible next steps regarding research, website, and social media development.
